Labor Day weekend travel in 2023 is expected to be extremely busy, both domestically and internationally. The Vacationer, an online travel advice site, reported that summer travel has been consistently high this year, and the trend is expected to continue for Labor Day weekend. AAA also predicts a 4% increase in domestic travel compared to last year and a drastic 44% increase in international bookings. The surge in international travel is due to the easing of Covid-19 restrictions and the desire to explore the world without limitations. Europe has been particularly popular, with Canada also attracting visitors due to its cooler temperatures and scenic beauty. Top international destinations for the holiday weekend include Vancouver, Rome, London, Dublin, and Paris. Last-minute round-trip deals to Europe are available for Labor Day weekend, but travel experts suggest looking into September and October for even lower prices. Domestic travel destinations include Seattle, Orlando, Anchorage, New York, and Las Vegas. Road travel is also expected to be popular, with Thursday or Friday being the preferred departure days for most travelers. INRIX, a provider of transportation data, suggests early mornings or evenings as the best times to avoid heavy traffic. Gas prices are expected to remain steady or go down heading into Labor Day weekend, and rental car prices have decreased by 14.5% compared to last year. It is not too late to find affordable flights, and travelers can benefit from being flexible with travel dates and destinations. Booking directly with airlines and signing up for delay and cancellation alerts are recommended. Additionally, adding an extra day or two to travel plans allows for more flexibility in case of any disruptions. Overall, Labor Day weekend travel in 2023 promises to provide a memorable end to the summer travel season.
