In an interview with IGN, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer expressed his belief that Starfield, the highly anticipated game from Bethesda Game Studios, will have a long lifespan similar to that of Skyrim. Spencer stated that he hopes Starfield will still be enjoyed by players even in the year 2033, a decade after its launch. Although he did not disclose the specifics of ongoing support, Spencer mentioned that he wants Starfield to have the same enduring popularity as Skyrim, which owes much of its longevity to the modding community.

With Skyrim having sold over 60 million copies since its release in 2011, it is considered one of the best-selling games of all time. Bethesda has continuously re-released the game on various platforms due to the consistent demand from players. In fact, Todd Howard, director and executive producer at Bethesda, jokingly said in 2018, “If you want us to stop releasing it, stop buying it.” Spencer and his team are aiming for Starfield to achieve similar success by captivating players for years to come.

Starfield, set to release on September 6, has generated significant anticipation among gamers. Those who purchase the $100 Constellation Edition or opt for a $35 upgrade will have early access to the game starting August 31. This special edition will also include an expansion called “Shattered Space.” Reviews of Starfield will begin appearing online on the same day.

As the release date approaches, more details about Starfield are expected to emerge. GameSpot will provide extensive coverage to keep readers updated on the latest developments.
