The first-generation Nest Cam Indoor, launched in 2015, is now supported by the Google Home app in the Public Preview. This security camera, previously known as the “Nest Cam,” was rebranded as the “Nest Cam Indoor” a year later. Users will now be able to manage the device in the Google Home app, with access to live feeds in the Favorites tab and an updated camera history UI for easy switching between event and timeline views. The app also offers expanded Household Routine support and the ability to view feeds through the Google Home website. While some camera features currently available in the Nest app, such as sharing live video streams with others, are not available in the Home app, Google plans to introduce more Nest app features to the Home app later this year, including the ability to create and download custom video clips.
Users can transfer their Nest Cam Indoor to the Google Home app by signing up for the Public Preview in the app’s settings and following the provided instructions. The transfer process will take a few weeks as Google gradually adds more users each week. During the transfer, the camera will no longer be accessible in the Nest app, but existing camera history will remain until it expires. Users can reverse the transfer at any time.
Google plans to bring support for other Nest devices and features to the Home app in the future, focusing on maintaining privacy, security, and customer experiences. The company will start migrating the Nest Cam Outdoor next.
Overall, the addition of support for the first-generation Nest Cam Indoor in the Google Home app brings enhanced convenience and control for users. With features like live feeds, an updated camera history UI, expanded Household Routine support, and the ability to view feeds through the Google Home website, managing and accessing the Nest Cam Indoor is now easier and more integrated within the Google Home ecosystem. Google’s plans to continue adding support for other Nest devices and features further enhances the functionality and versatility of the Google Home app.
