Revolutionary MIRA-Light prototype soars to success with Polaris Spaceplanes!

Posted by

Polaris Spaceplanes, a German aerospace company, has successfully completed a 15-flight test campaign of its MIRA-Light prototype vehicle. The test-flights, which took place over three days, demonstrated the vehicle’s aerodynamics and flight control systems in preparation for a larger-scale spaceplane prototype. The MIRA-Light prototype, measuring just 8.2 feet long, successfully flew using four electric fans and accumulated around 40 total minutes of flight time. Engineers at Polaris Spaceplanes will now use the data collected during the MIRA-Light flights to develop a scaled-up, larger MIRA vehicle.

The MIRA vehicle, which measures nearly 14 feet long, will be equipped with an actual linear aerospike engine for testing of the integrated flight systems. Both the MIRA-Light and MIRA spaceplanes are precursor prototypes to the company’s ultimate demonstration model, NOVA. Polaris Spaceplanes plans to scale up NOVA to a length of 22 feet and will fly it using four kerosene-fueled jet engines and a functional aerospike engine. If all goes well with the upcoming demonstration missions, the company expects to begin flying NOVA in 2024.

The successful completion of the MIRA-Light flight test campaign is a significant milestone for Polaris Spaceplanes. It demonstrates the company’s progress in developing spaceplane prototypes and its commitment to advancing space exploration technology. The data collected during these flights will help engineers refine the design and flight systems of future spaceplane models. Polaris Spaceplanes’ vision for the future includes the development of a multipurpose, hypersonic transport vehicle called AURORA, which is expected to begin flying in 2026 or 2027.

With each successful test flight, Polaris Spaceplanes is one step closer to realizing its goal of revolutionizing space transportation. The company’s dedication to innovation and progress in aerospace technology is commendable. As they continue to push the boundaries of what is possible, Polaris Spaceplanes is contributing to the advancement of space exploration and opening doors to new possibilities in the cosmos.
